As many of you will know, Dominica is very close to our hearts. We have lots of family out there and visit them as often as we can, so have seen for ourselves the basic conditions that many people live in; Hurricane Maria has devastated the country.
Following the recent hurricanes, upto 80% of Dominican homes have been destroyed and the Prime Minister has had to declare a state of emergency. You may have seen some shocking news reports of how bad the situation is. Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, fears that at least 40 people have died on the island following the unprecedented devastation caused by a direct hit from category 5 Hurricane Maria.
It really is that bad! Most Dominicans have nothing right now and we want to do something constructive to help them as soon as possible.
Help For Dominica sends donations to the poorest kids on the island but given what has just happened, we are expanding our aid to the whole island as everyone needs help.
We’ll be sending donations of clothes, shoes, sanitary products, blankets etc. out in barrels which can be very expensive, so I have set up a Just Giving page to help raise £500 to cover the cost of a few barrels.
If you have a spare pound or two, I would be so grateful if you could donate it through our Just Giving page.
Every penny will be spent wisely so please share this message with your friends and family.
Thanks so much for anything you can do to help – it is appreciated more than you can imagine.
